Today I listened to a morning radio news broadcast. The stories told covered both local and national news areas for example the first story they focused on was the increase in child poverty in England and how the government had taken noticed of this. They included a sound clip from an interview they did with a person that understood and had a more in depth look into the issue and could also tell the public some statistics which is why the audience would be attracted by it as it provides more information on the topic. This was an example of national news as it related to all the poor children in England. I think this story was important because it was focused on an issue that had human interest, the fact that they said children instead of adults is effective because children are seen as more innocent and powerless so it is more likely that the public will feel sorry for them. Another reason I think this made the news is because England is seen as a rich country that provides a good quality living so the fact that there are children in poverty is something that shouldn’t be increasing and instead decreasing. In this story the people are speaking in formal language because it is an important issue and it is also aimed at over 18s.
Another national story was based on the Olympic stadium and how different companies where interested in buying it and which football team would get it. This also included a sound clip of an interview of somebody who had more detail on the issue, which is something the public appreciate if its something they are interested in. Another reason why that is effective is because it provides another voice other than the radio speaker for the audience, which is quiet relieving or the audience instead of listening to the same voice for a long time. I think this is important because the public might be interested or curious to know what will happen to the stadium after it has been used for the Olympics and some might be hoping that their football team are the ones that win the stadium.
