Frequency : News events that happen suddenly and fit the schedule of the local broadcaster are more likely to be reported. If the events have several short bursts of activity or happen quickly are favored over those that happen gradually and at inconvenient times.
Threshold : For local news this refers to the importance an event has on the local community rather than to the nation.
Simplicity : This refers to stories that are easier for the whole of the local community to understand. Such as those that have a clear image of the winner or loser, hero or villain, stories like these are more favored over more complex ones.
Continuity : ´Stories-with legs´-Stories that will be on-going and will maintain the same level of interest for the local audience over time.
Elitism/Celebrity : We as a society are very curious and interested towards the events that take place in the lives of famous people, those with power and those with celebrity status, this is why news concerning such people will always be given attention.
Human Interest : This is the ´bread and butter´ of local news, stories that create empathy or vicarious responses from the audience in a range of circumstances.
Negativity : This are stories based on events that have gone wrong and how the local community will be affected in negative ways by them. The local news actually has more success stories than national or global news although they still try to fit in some bad news as well.
Local Interest : These are national stories who are adapted to a local angle. For example a local soldier killed in Iraq which is also an example of negativity.
Oddity/Unusual: These are stories that shock or surprise the audience because they are rare , strange and very different to the type of news people are used to hearing.

History of the Radio
http://inventors.about.com/od/rstartinventions/a/radio.htm
In my opinion Marconi contributed the most because he was the one that made the first successful transatlantic radiotelegraph mesage that travelled allt he way from England to Canada and showed that telegraphy could be transmitted by the radio instead of wire. This tenchnology because very useful when transmitting important imformation that helped capture criminals. Today policemen are able to communicate with eachother in different locations and inform one another on the whereabouts of a wanted criminal.

What Is News To Me
To me news is a way of informing the public of events that affect them in some way and therefore it is necessary for them to know. However it is important that the information is as accurate as possible to maintain the trustworthy image of the news program and the safety of the public.I also wanted to know what news means to other people other than myself and this is what I found.
I also included another question asking them 'what makes a good news story', so that I can use these opinions into my groups newscast and produce a newscast that people enjoy and trust.
this is what I found.

What is Digital Radio? (DAB)
DAB (Digital audio broadcast) allows the public to have access to their favourite FM/AM stations from a larger variety of places as well as providing listeners with digital quality sound that is clean and clear unlike analogue.
It also contains many other features such as the ability to pause, rewind and record your favourite programmes. It also has the ability to display the information of the tracks you are listening to and also the names of the stations instead of just numbers (frequency). You can even plan what you want to listen to.
However DAB doesn't always have a better sound quality than FM.this is because digital radio needs to be tightly compressedby inorder for it to fit in lots of stations, this involces removing parts of the signal the
broadcaster feels you won't be able to hear. This can reduce the sound
quality on the digital radio.

Analogue is a device or circuit that has an output balanced with its input. However when talking about analogue technology, it refers to a wave that is used in its original format .An example of this would be when we use a tape recorder that is analogue when we speak into it,the signal is then moved from the microphone which is analogue and onto the tape which also remains analogue, because of this the wave can be read, amplified and sent to a speaker to create sound.
A disadvantage of using analogue is that it made it much harder to edit the information for example when people recorded an interview and something needed to be taken out of the tape , the tape had to be cut using an editing machine and then the tape had to be stuck together again using a splicing tape.
Also the equipment that had to be carried around was also quite big.

What Is Digitization?
Digitization is the method of changing information which could be an image of text, music, movies etc into a digital format. This allows the information to become organized into separate pieces of data (bits) making it easy to access them separately.
Most importantly, since the information has turned into binary data (which allows digitization to happen), it becomes capable of being processed through other devices, as long as they have computing capacity such as a digital camera or a scanner that turns the image of text into an image file such as bitmap.
This video shows the man turning book pages into digital format.
This video shows a different side as it shows some of the problems created by digitization of music.
Along with digitization came minimization, this refers to reducing something to the smallest size possible. Such as the development of a big open reel tape recorder to small mp3 recorder to an even smaller Digital pen voice recorder.

The local news values this article has are:
>Simplicity because it is a subject that the audience can understand easily as it is something many people go through.
>Human interest because many people would find this really out of the ordinary compared to their own experience in this field.
>Oddity/unsual: Its not everyday that we hear about a student who has achieved 22 A levels which is why people would be interested in this news story.
