What is Digital Radio? (DAB)

DAB (Digital audio broadcast) allows the public to have access to their favourite FM/AM stations from a larger variety of places as well as providing listeners with digital quality sound that is clean and clear unlike analogue.
It also contains many other features such as the ability to pause, rewind and record your favourite programmes. It also has the ability to display the information of the tracks you are listening to and also the names of the stations instead of just numbers (frequency). You can even plan what you want to listen to.
However  DAB doesn't always have a better sound quality than FM.this is because digital radio needs to be tightly compressedby inorder for it to fit in lots of stations, this involces removing parts of the signal the broadcaster feels you won't be able to hear. This can reduce the sound quality on the digital radio.
